Henry County Parks and Recreation Offers Spring Break Camp open to ALL

Henry County, GA--  (submitted by Henry County)  The Henry County Parks and Recreation Department is offering a Spring Break Camp from April 4th through 8th during the week of spring break for Henry County schools. The cost for the camp is $90 ($80 for siblings) and includes a trip to Zoo Atlanta on Wednesday, April 6 and a free t-shirt. Camp hours are from 7:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.

Camps will be held at Heritage Park in McDonough, Locust Grove Recreation Center in Locust Grove, J. P. Moseley Recreation Center in Stockbridge, Fairview Recreation Center in Stockbridge and Nash Farm Park in Hampton.

Register for the free Walk Georgia program and Start Getting Fit

Cobb County, GA--  (submitted by Cobb Communications)  The successful fitness program Walk Georgia is back and residents are encouraged to participate and move more for healthier lives. 

Walk Georgia is a free eight-week program sponsored by University of Georgia/Cobb County Cooperative Extension. The program is designed to increase physical activity in a fun, community-oriented way. Participation is available as an individual or in teams of four. Participants can log exercise virtually at walkgeorgia.org and the program translates activities, such as aerobics classes, walking the dog and a pick-up game of basketball, into "miles." Through the online map, participants can electronically chart a course as they "walk" across Georgia, learning interesting facts about the counties visited.

This will be the only Walk Georgia program held this year. Online registration for the program is open Feb.

The Atlanta Hawks have announced that entries are now being accepted for the “Why Bully Free Is The Way To Be” Essay Contest.  The contest is part of the Hawks’ Read to Achieve program sponsored by Philips.

One Grand Prize Winner will be picked up by a limousine for a ride to school with Al Horford, and have the Hawks center visit his or her classroom.  The winner will also receive four tickets to the Hawks’ Read to Achieve Night game against the New York Knicks on March 6 (6 p.m.

Want to Run in Atlanta's Half Marathon this Thanksgiving? Train with a Coach Now

Atlanta, GA-- For those runners who will be running in the Atlanta Half Marathon on Thanksgiving morning, Coach Will Dillard, along with Fleet Feet Sports Atlanta, will have a training program designed specifically for intermediate and veteran runners.

An informational meeting and sign up will be at Fleet Feet Sports Atlanta on Sunday, September 12th at 3:00 p.m., and group runs begin Saturday, September 18th.

The cost of the program is $99.00 and will include the following: Ten Saturday group runs from various locations with optional Wednesday training runs beginning October 6th, a detailed written schedule, seminars on injury prevention and nutrition, access to Coach Will at the runs and by email for training questions, weekly email training tips, a long sleeve technical tee for race day, and socks and other goodies from program sponsors.

Along with coaching numerous runners over the past twenty years, Coach Will has trained many of his runners
