ADOPT A PET: Meet Ponce

ADOPT A PET: Meet Ponce

NEWNAN, Ga. – If you dream of coming home to a wet nose, wagging tail and tons of kisses (in addition to, perhaps, a half chewed shoe or overturned trashcan) adopt a puppy from your local pet shelter. According to the ASPCA, approximately 5 million to 7 million domesticated animals enter animal shelters nationwide, every year, and approximately 3 million to 4 million are euthanized. However, you can change those numbers but adopting a “companion” for yourself or your family. Pets are an investment but, in our opinion, an investment well worth the money.

Ponce is a male, Chocolate Lab mix who needs a home. According to the Humane Society, Ponce is a sweet, calm and cooperative; they say he’s a gem of a dog. He looks older than he actually is because he has, a bit of, grey hair on his muzzle. However, he’s only about 2 or 3 years old. Ponce is pretty laid back and the Human Society thinks he will be an exciting edition to any family.

BEST SPOTS: Dog Parks

BEST SPOTS: Dog Parks

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. -- For this week's edition of Best Spots, we have compiled a list of dog parks for you to take you furry friend for some fun.

Recently, dog parks have been sprouting up in the Atlanta area. With newly modified leash law restrictions, owners who may or may not have yards need a place for their dogs to run free and get adequate daily exercise.

Some say, these parks are becoming more popular as the country begins placing more of an emphasis on health following the First Lady’s “Let’s Move” initiative.

Dog owners in the PTC can take their furry children to the Peachtree City Dog Park for some off-leash exercise. The park is located on McIntosh Trail. The park is a 3.5 acre area behind the BMX track. The park is fenced and surrounded by a forest. The park is located at 191 McIntosh Trail in Peachtree City.

The brand new, Bark Park, in Hampton is a dog park with lots of clever attractions.

Veterinarians Caution Pet Owners: Dangers at Easter Time

Atlanta, GA --  (Submitted by Pet Poison Hotline) The veterinarians at Pet Poison Helpline, a national 24/7 animal poison control center, receive hundreds of calls this time of year from pet owners and veterinarians concerning cats that have ingested Easter lilies.

“Unbeknownst to many pet owners, Easter lilies are highly toxic to cats,” said Ahna Brutlag, DVM, assistant director at Pet Poison Helpline. “All parts of the Easter lily plant are poisonous – the petals, the leaves, the stem and even the pollen. Cats that ingest as few as one or two leaves, or even a small amount of pollen while grooming their fur, can suffer severe kidney failure.”
