Over the course of your life, the chances of being the victim of a crime are at least one in three, higher if you live in a large city, and higher still if you’re a woman. The criminal’s objective is to maximize gain and minimize risk, and he’ll usually pick the easiest target with the most to offer. Given these odds, it pays to take precautions by following some basic safety rules:

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -- Fulton County Schools Police have obtained an arrest warrant for a suspect in a fatal shooting after a high school football game.

Eric Dana Johnson Jr., 18, is wanted in connection with the death of Kristofer Hunter, who was gunned down Oct. 3 after attending Langston Hughes High School's homecoming game.

Johnson is black, 5 feet 8 inches tall and 170 pounds. He is considered armed and dangerous; anyone who sees him is asked to call 911 or their local police.

Hunter's death is still under investigation. A motive for the shooting has not been released.

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -- Police are investigating the shooting death of a 17-year-old McClarin High School student.

According to Fulton County Schools PIO Samantha Evans, Kristofer Hunter was shot at around 10 p.m. Friday after attending Langston Hughes High School's homecoming football game against Campbell High School.

Hunter was immediately taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he later died. No other students were injured.

Fulton County School Police are handling the investigation, but are not releasing information on possible suspects. Evans says there is no information on what led to the shooting.

Grief counselors were on hand at Langston Hughes, McClarin and Campbell high schools Monday. All three schools also had heightened security.

Students at McClarin wore blue and white in memory of Hunter. Classmates said they were shocked to learn of Hunter's death.

UNION CITY, Ga. -- Police are investigating a shooting at a Union City hotel.

One person was shot shortly before 2 a.m. Tuesday at Magnuson Hotel Atlanta South on Shannon Parkway, near the former Union Station mall.

Dispatchers said the victim was alert, conscious and breathing, and was taken to a nearby hospital.

Police have not yet released information about the suspect or the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

College Park man gets life for tattoo parlor shooting

COLLEGE PARK, Ga. -- A 26-year-old man has been sentenced to life plus 60 years in prison for shooting two people, one fatally, with an assault rifle.

John "Hot Boy" Blackmon of College Park was found guilty Tuesday of felony murder, aggravated assault, aggravated battery and weapons offenses.

According to information presented in court, on Aug. 25, 2013, Blackmon gunned down two people in the parking lot of Infamous Tattoos on Old National Highway.

Witnesses told police that Blackmon was sitting in the back of an SUV that pulled into the tattoo parlor's parking lot alongside a Chevrolet Impala with two men inside. Blackmon fired an assault rifle into the Impala.

FAIRBURN, Ga. -- A suspect has been taken into custody after a man was killed and a woman was hurt in a shooting in south Fulton County.

It happened at around 11:45 p.m. Monday at the Harbor Lakes Apartments in the 7300 block of Roosevelt Highway in Fairburn.

Marshal Tucker, 48, was pronounced dead at the scene, and 53-year-old Latonia Patterson is in stable condition at a local hospital.

Fairburn Police Sgt. Anthony Bazydlo said investigators identified the suspect as Patterson's ex-boyfriend, 44-year-old Terry B. Marshall. Marshall was arrested in Valley, Ala., Tuesday evening and will be extradited to Georgia. He faces murder and aggravated assault charges in Monday's shooting.

Bazydlo said police believe Marshall shot the two victims because he was jealous they were in a relationship.

Fulton County Fire Rescue promotes vehicle arson prevention during Arson Awareness Week

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -- Each year during the first full week in May, the U.S. Fire Administration (USFA) work to raise awareness of arson and provide individuals with strategies to combat it in their community. This year, Arson Awareness Week is May 4-10 and focuses on vehicle arson.

“Vehicle arson is a very serious matter,” said Chief Larry Few, Director of the Fulton County Fire Rescue Department. “The motivations behind the burning of vehicles are similar to those of other types of arson crimes. Fulton residents should learn ways they can prevent vehicle arson from happening to them.”

Motivations behind vehicle arson include, revenge, concealing another crime, excitement, insurance fraud/arson for profit and vandalism.
